As the founding Communications Lead for the Centre for Urban Transformation (one of ten centres within the Forum), I managed communications for the team’s various workstreams by delivering a pipeline of content, including thought leadership, impact stories, case studies and reports with Forum Partners and external experts. I also worked with the Forum’s media team to identify and create urban transformation stories for the Forum’s channels as well as external media. I also collaborated with the Forum’s crisis communications lead. The Centre’s workstreams focus on innovative practices in architecture, infrastructure, mobility, economic development and climate mitigation and adaptation—and how new …
Rogers Partners
For Rogers Partners Architects+Urban Designers, founded in 2013 by Rob Rogers based on 25 years of experience, I collaborated with the leadership of the firm on a combination of deadline-driven and longer-term communications and business development goals. This includes crafting thought leadership pieces, such as this op-ed about the importance of rebuilding urban manufacturing. Other projects include devising RFP response strategies, creating marketing collateral and messaging documents, cultivating speaking opportunities, and forging connections to assemble multi-disciplinary teams. This work was primarily focused on public realm and resilient design projects, social infrastructure and educational facilities.
National Development Council
NDC (now called Grow America) is the most experienced and comprehensive community and economic development non-profit in the US. Since 1969, NDC has been working in under-resourced communities to bring capital and expertise to grow small businesses, build affordable housing and develop social infrastructure, including libraries, city halls, campus buildings, research centers and more. For many years I worked with the President and CEO Daniel Marsh on messaging and content creation (such as this piece in Planning Magazine co-authored by Dan Marsh, Seth Pinsky of RXR Realty and Luiz Aragon who led New Rochelle’s successful downtown redevelopment masterplan). Primarily …
WXY architecture + urban design
WXY is an integrated architecture, planning and urban design firm working primarily in the public realm. I worked with principal-in-charge Claire Weisz and her partners to realize communications and business development strategies, from content creation and media engagement to speaking opportunities and new business outreach. This work included pitching ideas and preparing presentations for LA CoMotion (2017), Smart Cities NY (2017), and City Age in Los Angeles (2016), Toronto and DC (2017). Content creation and media placement included an op-ed in Crain’s New York by managing principal Adam Lubinsky about a new car sharing model; a cover story for AIANYS …
Marvel Architects
I was engaged by Jonathan Marvel prior to the split of Rogers Marvel to see the firm through its dissolution and the launch of Marvel Architects. This included the firm’s identity development, website, social media strategy, and media relations. Once the firm was launched, my focus shifted to business development by cultivating new relationships, attending conferences and leading RFPs. A selection of media coverage includes the St. Ann’s Warehouse groundbreaking in the Wall Street Journal; Pierhouse in Brooklyn Bridge Park in The New York Times; and the State Street Townhouses in the Daily News. I also placed an op-ed in …
Ennead Architects
As the in-house communications strategist for Ennead Architects, I revamped everything from the firm profile to project pages and website content, as well as wrote design approach language for RFPs, created content for press releases and awards submissions. To develop a strategic communications plan, I interviewed the partners and conducted an analysis of the firm’s message and positioning. This process resulted in a content-driven multimedia marketing strategy based on the firm’s extensive portfolio of projects in the public realm. Ennead Architects (formerly Polshek Partnership) is a 170-person firm based in NYC designing academic, cultural, health care and laboratory buildings.
Mayor’s Office
I worked with the Mayor’s Office for Long Term Planning and Sustainability to write the 2012 progress report for PlaNYC (PDF). Launched in 2007 by Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, PlaNYC is the sustainability and resiliency blueprint for New York City. To draft the report I conducted research and interviews with the OLTPS staff on all policy issues related to sustainability, resilience and long-term planning–from recycling to transportation, energy conservation, housing and neighborhood development, brownfield redevelopment, parks and public space, air and water quality.
YRG Sustainability
YRG Sustainability (bought by WSP) was a sustainability consulting firm with offices in New York, Chicago, Denver and Portland. I worked with the principals to update the firm profile, approach language and project pages, as well as drafted language for RFPs. Utilizing my contact list, I initiated business development meetings for founding principal Lauren Yarmuth. I also pitched media stories, including this piece in Architectural Record, as well as an op-ed by Lauren Yarmuth in EDC, the official magazine for LEED professionals.
